Day 18 Nairobi – Rest Day

Well we are at a Greta resort north of Nairobi city. We had a good breakfast and then headed of for the repair shop in the car park

We jacked up the car, pulled off the stone guard, which allowed the engine to Drop an inch

Then we negotiated with the mechanics for the best plan of action and decided to try for whatever we could get, being shock absorbers, and springs for the front. Sam and I spent half a day resetting the sump guard and the structure to support it which had been flattened as the bottom of the sump had been

We removed the sump and panel beated it to refit by getting a 4wd to drive drive over it, finally getting the front reassembled and wheel aligned at 10pm. We had a quick lunch and swim. It.s now 11pm and we are just settlingndown for dinner, going back later to sort out the bill

Tomorrow is a run on sand then mountain climbing on rocks. A lot of cars are staying on the bitumen and heading south

Most of the cars had serious damage. The other 4 door merc was last seen when we replaced our springs south of Moyale. Then had to sit without help all day then in the evening the military came down and escoutered them into their camp for protection

Apparently the area we came through is extremely dangerous, bandits, rebels ect, but we saw no of that, only happy people and man with extravagant ‘clothing,

End merc then arrived here this afternoon with a lot of damage having been repaired afetr their truck driver had been arrested and locked up twice on the trip in the BMW x5 rolled a few days ago out of Marsabit, the BMW m5 broke down south of morale and was fla towed by a lancruiser through the track and it is pretty well destroyed but now apparently in Nairobi being repaired .

So we are now having dinner and off to bed trying to work out if we go and slam the car absurd some more.

If we hadn’t had a rest day we wouldn’t have had a rally tomorrow I don’t think

I didn’t mention the cracks in the rear fire wall, a foot long from the shock absorber mount running down at 30 degrees towards the centre pus a fe serious crack on the joint between the rear shelf and the fire wall.

The car has been hammered. Driving on the road we did was madness, bu the is no oterh viable route. The red 4wd is destroyed, the trucking causing more issues, most cars with serious damage, with a few unable to. Do anything other than drive done the highway to the next overnight stop.

What fun we are having !

Just been out to pay the bill, some cars still in pieces after midnight, and quite cold. Nairobit is about 2 thousand meters .
