Day 12 Suakin (Port) to Gedaref

I’m writing from Ethiopia on a dial up service for some reason.

We drove for 2 days through Saudi Arabia and had the rear springs replaced for free by the Mercedes dealer whose detail I will get to you

.

Then a low quality boat from Saudi to Sudan that arrived very late the next day, in Sudan where we then had to drive for 700 klms leaving port at 4pm half the road was good but half horrific.

Sudan is a very poor destitute place, pretty much what you see on Google is what you get, we drove through fierce winds that were building sand dunes over the roads as we drove. So thick and fast sand over the roads we couldn’t see the potholes which would be better described as pot strips right across the road.

Most arrive at the Sudan hotel after midnight all in all not a bad result.

Sam and I lived on 8 mars bars and a couple of packets of crisps and 2 mandarins. The overnight hotel was ok and they had some food waiting, and a pretty good breakfast.
