Day 11 we drove from Yenbu to Jedda, 390 klms, passed trucks with trend less tires and cars that were over taking us by pulling of the road, onto dirt while we were traveling at 140.
Last night one Porsche got broken into and their electric navigation equipment stolen, and the car next to us got their stickers peeled off! Obviously they were nicer than our own. In the morning we met a kid not much older than Sam, who was a fanatic about Australia, he even had an Australian flag in his car, he was showing us photos of his Holden; one picture was the speedometer and the rev count maxed out and the other a digital speedometer which showed 353 km an hour! Considering how they drive on the road and how impressed he was with himself it is clear to see that they really don’t hold life in the same high regard we do.
Anyway, in Jedda we finally got onto a Mercedes service centre that changed our springs and gave the other two cars various adjustments. It is just in time as we are heading to Sudan tomorrow and it is expected to be the beginning of the roughest roads of the trip, and there is no where near as much technical support over there.
So we have had our most productive at as we are no fully prepared for the stages to come. We had our first police encounter also, however we played the dumb tourist and blocked he road, he eventually got fed up and just left us, we Evan got a Baskin and Robins Ice Cream at the port, where we are boarding the ferry from Jedda to Sudan.
Update
Now loaded on boat and found our rooms and sitting here waiting for food.
To say the boat is interesting is the only word I can think to describe it. We will be very pleased to get off in Sudan and start our African trip.
