News from the Orphanage
Sept 8th 2011 – Unfortunately, our news today is not good.
Just after midnight last night, a group of 7 intruders broke into our orphanage compound. They were very serious about coming into the orphanage building. Ivan managed to deter them, but one of them took a shot at him. This shot woke up all of our staff and children.
From now until Christmas is when robbery peaks in Kenya. These thugs have no problem with entering an orphanage compound. All they see is that Ivan is mzungu (white) and that means access to money.
In the 8 years we have lived in Kenya, this is only the second time that this has happened. We certainly don’t want to deter any of you form coming to visit with us, but we feel, after this incident, we need to add extra security.
We feel the best way to ensure the safety of our children, staff and visitors is to put an electric fence around the compound. The estimated cost for this is $22,000.00 AUD.
If you can contribute to help us increase our security we would be very grateful.
We are so thankful that none of our children were harmed.
